Based on food writer Nigel Slater's award winning biography, Toast is the story of the loss of his beloved, hopeless cook of a mother and the family cleaner who became his wicked stepmother and their rivalry for the love of his father played out with the weapon of food. Again the costumes and sets are so authentic they perfectly evoke the late 50s and 60s. Freddie Highmore is well cast as the teenage Slater and Helena Bonham-Carter is perfectly vile as his stepmother.
