I thought I'd write about this just as it's about to move to the Royal Academy in London.
Late 19th Century Glasgow, the 'second city of the British Empire' was booming with industrial and creative energy. A group of painters rebelled against the oppressive Edinburgh based art scene. 'The Glasgow Boys' were bound by similar ideals, choosing real people in real places around their own city in preference to the studio-bound art of the time. Their first major show in 1885 caused a sensation with its bold use of colour and light. This exhibition of 140 largely previously unseen works has done it again. Over 105,000 visitors flocked to Kelvingrove Art Gallery making this the best-selling visual arts exhibition of all time.
