Having managed to get round a fair number of museums this trip, The National Portrait Gallery was by far the most enjoyable viewing experience. The gallery is laid out in chronological order and then further by theme within each era. Everything connects and flows and gives you a real feeling for the major figures in each century. It's also surprising to see great names in literature and art, sometimes not exactly looking like you imagined them. I also love going to galleries and standing in front of paintings that you have seen reproduced a million times over in books and TV and movies. The real thing just has so much more spirit and life to it.
